The woman in this photograph is buying an airline ticket. Not a big deal, considering she’s at an airport, and that’s a fairly commonplace activity…except, perhaps, when you consider that she’s buying it for a complete stranger.
A few days ago, a young dad approached the counter, excited to check in for a flight with his daughter in his arms. The ticket agent asked her age and he proudly exclaimed, “she just turned 2!” After this, the agent asked for the little girl’s ticket. The dad was confused…he was under the impression that she could accompany him for free (when he booked the ticket, the little girl was only 1 and did qualify for a free flight but she had since turned 2 thus exceeded the age restriction.) The father was distraught as he didn’t have the funds to either re-book or pay the, last minute price of, $749 to purchase a ticket for his daughter. He stepped out of line in an effort to make some phone calls to see what, if anything, could be done.
Meanwhile, the woman you see in the photograph stepped up to the father who was frantically trying to make calls with his head in his other hand. When she heard his story, she stepped up to the counter and asked to purchase the little girl’s ticket. The agent asked her if she was aware of the price and the woman said she was, placed her credit card on the counter and proceeded with the purchase.
The father was beyond grateful and kept asking for the woman’s name so he could find, and repay, her but she just kept re-assuring him that it was no problem. The picture you see here was posted on Facebook and shared to a group that promotes feel-good stories though and, inevitably, she was recognized and comments were posted revealing her identity.
One person who wanted to respect her wish to remain anonymous posted that she knew the woman in the picture and that her generous act came as no surprise to her. She noted that this woman regularly met with her family to discuss ways they can use the abundance they have been graced with in life to help others and that she likes to give back without recognition.
In the spirit of that, I’m not going to name the woman in this blog either. Her name and occupation can be easily found with a quick google search but I love this story the way it was intended to unfold… Just a special moment where a good human who could, stepped up to help another human in need. <3
