Let’s sit down on this YELLOW Bench and talk about Mental Illness!
Yesterday, our Pamela Roz , blogged about Lady Gaga and Prince William’s video on Mental Illness. Something which was never heard of a generation ago. The fact it’s such high-profile people , will help those who suffer, to open up more often and seek help. Whether we are aware or not, we all know someone silently suffering mental health issues.
Two WEEKS from today Grant Park High School takes part in a Canada-Wide initiative. It’s the placing of a special bench, (5 across Canada), known as a Friendship Bench, meant to provide a safe space for peer-to-peer conversations and help increase Mental Health Awareness.
The truth is , one in five teens seriously considered SUICIDE last year while most kids struggling with Depression suffer in silence. The fact is , only one in five who need mental health services actually obtain them. The BENCH will remain as a symbol meant to encourage students to open up about their mental health and seek help. A plaque on the Bench with www.yellowisforhello.org will offer a link for mental health support services on and off campus. IF you or someone you know is in NEED here are links which will offer direction…..Canadian Mental Health Association : http://www.cmha.ca: The Friendship Bench’s FAQ: https://www.thefriendshipbench.org/faq/ : KIDS Help Line: https://www.kidshelpphone.ca/
