Dove has long be an advocate of challenging beauty standards and encouraging self-esteem in women, but their new campaign may have taken a wrong turn.
Their branch in the UK released this video showing their line of shampoos and conditioners in new bottle shapes ranging from tall and skinny to short and plump, meant to represent women of different shapes.
While I’m sure the idea was well-intentioned, it started to get some backlash online. Some liked the idea, others said it’s encouraging women to be defined by their body type. Others pointed out that the exaggerated shapes don’t really represent bodies. Others made jokes.
What do you think of the campaign? Is it positive and inspiring or is it missing the mark?
