150 Canoes expected for the RED River this Saturday!
An historic paddle began last night in St. Jean Baptiste. Voyageurs of La Brigade de la Riviere Rouge will begin paddling down the RED to the Forks , reliving the era of the “ Voyageur and the fur trade. This Rendezvous on the Red, will include overnight stops in Ste. Agathe and St. Norbert , where people are urged to come for a BBQ and celebrations featuring cultural and musical entertainment.
SATURDAY , the public can join in the final leg of the paddle from St. Norbert to the Forks on Saturday morning. Culmination of the event that afternoon , expecting to see a massive display of a 150 Canoes, recognized by a special gun salute and the ringing of the bells from St. Boniface Cathedral. The showcase event, in honour of Canada 150 and celebrates The RED as one Canada’s Great Heritage Rivers. Organizers suggest being on the banks of the Red in front of the Cathedral before 4pm. Cameras and i-phones should be ready , when each canoe bow member lift their paddle in a two – hand salute. A sight that has never been seen before.
