To many Manitobans , this is the best weekend of the summer. It’s The August long weekend but one of the most dangerous. The Lifesaving society of Manitoba has sent out a WARNING, that drinking and boating in our province accounts for 70% of boating related fatalities . THREE times the rate for deaths on Manitoba Roads. On average , our province sees more people drowning a year than those who die impaired behind the wheel.
Operation Dry Water has been launched to warn all boaters about the danger of operating a vessel impaired. The summer boating season is in full swing and this long weekend will see even more boaters than ever out to enjoy the fun. Risks rise when drinking and boating. The effects of booze are increased with winds and waves rocking the boat . If your blood alcohol level exceeds .08 you can be charged, even if in a CANOE! Remember If you Drink…DON’T Drive! It could save your life.
