The East Exchange will soon have a Micro- Distillery!
Parts of the historical and famous Oak room from the ST. Regis Hotel will help create ambiance for a new enterprise slated in the East Exchange! A half million dollars will be spent to restore a building on Alexander and turn it into a whiskey distillery and tasting room.
It’s the former Dominion Express Co. building which housed horses as a stable back in 1903. Tourism Manitoba has already labelled it as a future Destination Location. Patent 5, the company investing in this will offer the public , home-grown gin , vodka ,and whiskey.
Heritage Winnipeg has developed a plan to reconstruct and use the buildings’ history as a key component to help draw people into the area. When opened in the New Year, locals and tourists alike will be able to taste and buy the products as well as tour the operation. Patent 5 will also be the first whiskey producer within city limits since 1880. Once up and running, Vodka and Gin will be the first produced, while Corn whiskey similar to bourbon and Wheat whiskey akin to Crown Royal would follow.
CHEERS everyone!
