The 350 Thousand Dollar Restoration is complete!
Just in time for Remembrance Day. Three years of restoration has renewed the look of one of the city’s Oldest War-Time memorials ; The Vimy Ridge Memorial in VIMY RIDGE park on Portage avenue. The Original Cross which had been erected on the original World War One Battle site still sits atop.
The famous memorial ,dedicated to the 44th battalion , saw plenty of upgrades , including a latticed brick plaza in front and a raised flower bed , representing the Battle Field known as The Pimple.
The Memorial is one of many in the city commemorating one of Canada’s Greatest but bloodiest victories. Almost 4,000 lives were lost with more 7,000 wounded. It was the first time all 4 divisions were united under a Canadian Command. Saturday , Veterans , current Canadian Forces Members and Dignitaries will gather there to again pay tribute.
