You’ve never seen Jets jerseys like these…and they are HEAVY!…
QXNation member, Tara Hebert, is a friend of mine on Facebook so I have seen images, in my news-feed, of the amazing creations of her guy, David Twerdochlib, before. David hand-makes chainmaille garments that would blow your mind! This week, two of his creations caught the eye of the NHL Jets during their #HockeyFightsCancer game at BellMTS Place. Each of these custom jerseys took 200 hours to make and they are HEAVY! The Jets Jersey, made from 16g 5/16 square anodized aluminum, weighs about 15 lbs …

The cancer awareness jersey is made from half 16g 5/16″ anodized aluminum rings and half neoprene rings of the same size. It weighs about 12lbs and has a bit of stretch to it because of the neoprene. David says he created this special cancer awareness jersey, a couple of years ago, in honour of his mom, “The cancer awareness jersey was made in honour of my mother who died of cancer. It means a lot to me because, to me, as tough as hockey players are, anyone who fights cancer is the ultimate warrior.”
Not only were Tara and David spotted in the concourse and featured on the Jets’ Twitter feed, David was also singled out during the game for a round of #FanVSfan …watch…

David has a whole series of hockey jersey-style chainmaille creations part of a project that is close to his heart. He says, “The hockey jersey project has been a labour of love. I started off thinking that Team Canada Junior hockey players were warriors, representing their county in foreign counties. From there I’ve picked jerseys of players and teams who have been warriors in their own ways. Montreal and Winnipeg all are team based jerseys as each of those teams has a history of being there for their fans. Habs and TRUE NORTH adorn the backs. Boston reads Boston Strong as it was made in support of the city that suffered a terror attack. Québec Nordiques has P Stastny on the back as it took courage for him to come over. The Wild jersey honours Derek Boogaard, a hockey fighter who suffered concussions and died of a drug overdose.”
He continues, “Trevor Linden (Vancouver Canucks) was a respected player for several teams who was also an Olympian, finally becoming an NHLPA president. The Hartford Whalers Sports Gordie Howe on the back. The ultimate hockey warrior who made famous the Gordie Howe Hat trick.”
It’s not ONLY hockey jerseys… David’s art has also been known to reflect his romantic side…
The pic above features David with “King Henry, King of the Faire” at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival in Shakoppe, Mn. and, below, shows the above creation reversed and emblazoned with the image of the Royal Poet, Arthur Greenleaf Holmes (who also appears along-side his chainmaille likeness in the photo.)
