Just call this , the U of W’s PEACE CORPS!
The above is a picture of twenty students from The University of Winnipeg! They’re making a difference in the North End by offering to spend the summer learning and working in community organizations. An experimental program designed at the University based on principles from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission called YouthUnited@Winnipeg.
These are students, all from diverse backgrounds, taking their knowledge into the neighbourhood as Roving Classrooms and coming together to help service areas often misrepresented or misunderstood. It’s Reconciliation at its’ best.
Using the New MERCHANTS Corner as their new home , the students will work in conjunction with experienced community groups familiar with the North End; Ka Ni Kanichihk , Welcome Place , Graffiti Gallery to mention a few. You can learn more about each dedicated individual by logging on at www.communications@uwinnipeg.ca then follow the links to Youth United@ Winnipeg. You might say its’ Winnipeg’s very own PEACE Corps in action!
