If it looks like
Super Hits is missing a lot of
Teena Marie's best material, it's because it does not draw from any of her Motown releases -- a very significant chunk of her career. Those years were, without question, her best. That said,
Marie's post-Motown career was certainly productive. "Ooo La La La," "Shadow Boxing," and especially "Lovergirl" are all necessary in any
Teena Marie overview. Seven other cuts, including a couple other noteworthy singles and album tracks, fill out the disc, but there are more thorough sets -- such as 2000's
Ultimate Collection, which covers the Motown and Epic eras rather well -- that are more valuable than this one.
