The Winnipeg community is saddened to hear that one of its dearest friends lost his battle with cancer.  Ron Able, QX104's long time morning show host, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early January and passed away Friday February 13, 2009.

Many of Ron's friends and fans learned of his illness, and were able to send their best wishes through a Facebook support group set up for Ron.  Ron was overwhelmed and grateful for the incredible outpouring of messages he received over the past several weeks.  His family has been in Winnipeg and by his side the entire time.

Ron knew that he was one of the luckiest people in the world.  As far back as he could remember, he was fascinated by radio and he thought it was a great thing when you get to do something you love for a living.  Every day, Ron got to work with people he respected, and who he had become great friends with.  And through the radio station, he got to take part in helping to build a better community.  He especially loved working with charities that helped children.

Ron's  radio career took him across Canada.  He had been on the air in Montreal, Halifax and Vancouver.  He found that Winnipeg was one of the best places to live & work.  That's probably why he had been here such a long time.

Ron enjoyed music, good food, and comedy.  And who could forget Ron's love of photography.  He mostly did scenic and wildlife shots.  Ron was also a car freak.  Did you know he used to race a bit?

For the last 12 years Ron, with partner Caroline Hunter helmed the QX104 Morning Show as The Waking Crew.
