You should see what’s happened at Winnipeg Beach!
Winnipeg Beach draws thousands in the summer, but never in Winter. This year it’s different. Mother Nature has created Ice Sculptures, drawing big crowds. They’re coming to see 3-metre high , “ Icescapes” on the shores. The Mayor tells us he’s never seen so many impressive ice sights, in 30 years he’s lived there.
It began in December when ice on lake Winnipeg started to freeze. The strong winds churned the water into a slushy mix and battered it up on the sand. As the month passed the process kept building into what we see today; Glassy and picturesque boulders.
Word of mouth has spread, seeing hundreds, cameras at the ready , travelling from the city to drink in the view. Many from the area say they’ve never seen anything like it. With rain falling during a warm spell , the water has melted ,smoothing the ice-boulders into many shapes; frozen waves , mushroom clouds and mysterious other- world forms. The Mayor says while the structures remain, we should come up and enjoy. Take Highway 8 straight north, follow the signs ,find a parking spot and enjoy! It’s another FREE Winter Treat!
