Manitoba’s Summer Flower

With a few sprinkles of rain and the nice weather out in full force, Manitoba’s ‘summer flower’ has made its return in full force. At least in my backyard.
The more I stare out at my late spring harvest of dandelions from my deck as I sip my morning coffee, I can’t help but find the positive in an otherwise negative infestation. Let’s take a look at why dandelions can be a good thing..
- They can be harvested to make wine
- They add a beautiful yellow palette to an otherwise monotone green yard
- They can be harvested to make wine
- Great for bees, which have recently entered the endangered species list!

So if your yard looks a lot like mine does, fear not! You’re actually promoting a healthy bee population, while at the same time encouraging yourself to build a wine cellar. You can also take a look at your neighbours’ yard after you cut the grass. If the wind blows just right, you’re helping THEM help the bees, too. #SharingIsCaring
