FREEDOM! What does it mean for you ?
Another GREAT reason to visit our Canadian Museum for Human Rights. A new exhibit has opened which tells the story of Nelson Mandela and his struggle for Freedom , an ideal he claims he was prepared to die for! My immigrant father would always declare how important it was to be Canadian and live in a FREE Country!
Mandela struggled against apartheid in South Africa. A system put in place by the White Population which classified people into 4 categories: White , Black ,Coloured or Indian/Asian all of whom were governed by restrictive laws. A system dictating where people could live , work or travel while controlling access to education, health care and social services.
Nelson Mandela said NO to such a system and ended up behind bars for 27 years. He refused to give up on his struggle for FREEDOM and give in to hate. In the end he went on to become South Africa’s first democratically elected President. Mandela:Struggle for Freedom tells the story of racism, oppression, resistance and reconciliation that changed our world and opens this Friday. This video will show you some of the reality of Mandela’s struggle allowing us to be part of that struggle!
