Watching Movies from the sand in GIMLI!
Gimli’s Famous Film Fest is coming. The lineup includes 111 diverse films including many which are premieres. Eight distinct categories titled as The Future is Female, DOC35 Retrospective ,Indigenous, LGBTTO , Northern Lights, Manitoba , Social Justice and in keeping with the area population , Icelandic. This is the 18th year of show-casing entertaining Cinema , 46% of which is film written or directed by women!
It’s the largest film festival in Manitoba and is especially popular for the screenings from the lake. A Giant Screen out in the water makes evening viewing from the sandy beach easy. Known as The RBC Screenings, shows begin when it’s dark enough, about ten pm. Here’s the list you’ll see from the sand.
Wednesday July 25th , is kick-off night with Penny Marshalls’ , A League of Their Own ; Thursday night , it’s Phantom of the Paradise ; Friday a Double Feature beginning with Dazed and Confused followed by the midnight showing of The Big Lebowski ; Rob Reiner’s classic Stand By Me follows on Saturday night with Sunday’s Wrap up called The Great Outdoors.
