The U of W is finding hidden talents in our lost youth:
The U of W is teaching Education Students how to connect with “Lost” youth. It’s “The Lost Prizes” program whose goal is to discover the talents of at-risk youth. These could be students with legal issues, drug and alcohol problems causing many to be disengaged from school. The program discovered that many had talents, which could place them in famous schools if they had the opportunity. Because of circumstances , school or family, their talents were never identified.
“Lost Prizes”, emphasizes the strengths of at-risk-youth. There’s even a class on the art of “kid whispering”, showing Education students how to communicate with young people to promote cooperation and trust. Since the U of W is a downtown campus, it made for a perfect fit.
Education students will gather for a three day conference beginning tomorrow, learning how to seek those hidden talents which were never identified or celebrated. The objective of course to reclaim the drop-outs and have them re-enter High School or University! https://www.uwinnipeg.ca/lostprizes/
