October 17th, cannabis will become legal in Canada and it’s raising questions about how to re-frame the conversation about pot use with kids and teens. One mom said, “What will I tell my son now? All these years it’s been, ‘just say no to drugs’ and ‘pot is illegal, end of story’… now that’s changing…what do I say?”
The only thing I can think of is that it’s still not legal for underage kids so, it stands to reason that, the conversation will be akin to the no underage drinking talk. Thing is, I don’t have kids so, I’m hardly an expert on the topic 😉 Would love to hear from parents about what you’re planning, or are already saying, to your kids about the legalization of cannabis.
We’ll be discussing it on the QX104 Coffee Break today between 2:15 and 3pm …give me a call! 204.780.1041 (or text 10401)
In the meantime, I found this article from the University of Alberta’s Geraint Osbourne. It’s a 2017 article and it’s a bit off on the date but, nonetheless, you might find it useful in planning “the talk” 🙂
