GOOGLE View for City Cyclists coming to Winnipeg !
We’ve all used GOOGLE Street-view at one time or another. SOON, there’ll be another GOOGLE view for bicycle riders in our city. Being one who lives on his bike over summer months, it’s bound to add to the pleasure of travelling into yet traveled areas of Winnipeg.
The Winnipeg Trails Association is doing the work using The Google Trekker (picture here), a recumbent TRIKE outfitted with a 360 degree camera on loan from GOOGLE. Volunteers are logging up to ten hours a day to map trails .To date 200 kms have been logged, with another 200kms to go.
The process involves multiple cameras snapping thousands of pictures which are then stitched together, then digitally processed to create a panoramic view of bike trails in our city. Once the project is done, we can expect maps to be available online, sometime next summer.
